Melanotan II

Melanotan II can be best described as a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring melanocortin peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). This drug was first synthesized at the University of Arizona after researchers found that one of the most effective defenses against cancer of the skin was melanin activated in the skin, a tan. This drug has been an instant hit with individuals having a liking for outdoor sports, beaches, and muscle appearance as it can increase pigmentation without exposure to UV.

Apart from offering a tanned appearance to the skin, Melanotan II is also effective in enhancing the levels of libido besides regulating sexual arousal in men and women. This compound works by stimulating alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that occurs in a natural form. The stimulation process causes Melanogenesis, which is a process where the tanning cells of the skin (melanocytes) produce melanin. This means that administration of this hormone can be termed as an effective alternative to tan by exposure to UV rays.

The recommended dose of Melanotan II is 0.03-0.025 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. However, doses can be increased till they reach to doses of 1.0-1.5 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. Melanotan II is administered via injection into the subcutaneous layer that includes the adipose tissue. No medical studies have suggested any documentation suggesting side effects of Melanotan II. However, there can be some possible side effects such as dizziness, irritation, nausea, tiredness, and vomiting.
