Dutasteride (also known as Avodart, Avidart, Avolve, Duagen, Dutas, Dutagen, and Duprost) is considered to be nothing less than a wonder drug and in a different league of its own. This drug helps its users to dramatically treat hair loss. It means that steroid users, especially those using harsh or aromatizable steroids during a steroid cycle, can be completely relieved of the worst steroid side effect - loss of hair - when they have Dutasteride nearby them.

By minimizing the natural production of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), Dutasteride leads to shrinking of the enlarged prostate in men. This 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor interferes with the 5-alpha-reductase enzymes to breakdown testosterone that can convert into DHT.

The chemical name of Dutasteride is (5α,17β-N-{2,5 bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl}-3-oxo-4-azaandrost-1-ene-17-carboxamide and its molecular weight is 528.5 g/mol at base. Its chemical formula is C27H30F6N2O2. The active ingredient of Dutasteride is dissolved in a mixture of butylated hydroxytoluene and mono-di-glycerides of caprylic/capric acid; inactive ingredients include gelatin, glycerin, and ferric oxide.

In the world of healthcare, Dutasteride is a miracle drug for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with prostate enlargement besides being equally effective to treat acute urinary retention (AUR) and eliminate the need for BPH related surgery procedures.

The recommended dosage of Dutasteride is 0.5-1.0 mg per day; the dose can be taken with or without meals. This drug is, not at all, recommended for pregnant or nursing women as it can damage the developing male fetus.  It is also important to note here that use of low grade or abuse of Dutasteride can lead to possible side effects such as impotency, ejaculation complications, and gynecomastia.
